日本メディア学会
会長 林香里
皆さま、こんにちは。
第40期日本メディア学会会長に就任いたしました林香里です。
このたびは、たいへん光栄に思うと同時に、改めて身の引き締まる思いでおります。力の限り、この学会運営に努めてまいりたいと存じます。
私は、1951年の創設以来、女性として初めての会長となりました。先輩女性たちのご苦労を知る者として、この事実を厳粛に受け止めております。他方で、現在、学会会員の出自や背景にも多様性が広がっていることを実感しており、とりわけ若い会員の皆さんから教えを受け、励まされることも少なくありません。
日本メディア学会は、第38期に「日本メディア学会」と名称変更をおこない、激動のメディア時代の文脈に即した危機感と機動力を持って運営されてまいりました。近年は、学会大会の参加者数も増加の一途をたどり、この春の立命館大学における大会では430名を超え、1951年の創設以来、最も多くの方々にご参加いただきました。参加者には、会員だけでなく非会員の方も多くいらっしゃいました。これも、会員の皆様の研究への熱意と、社会的注目度の高まりの賜物と考えております。
多様な発想や思考を尊重することは、研究の発展に欠かせません。誰もが思う存分に研究し、相互に切磋琢磨できる環境を学会で実現する――この理念を目指し、第39期理事会では「日本メディア学会ダイバーシティ宣言」が採択されました（第39期第15回理事会決定）。これは本学会の歩みにとって、大きな一歩だと考えております。本日、この会長メッセージとともにこの宣言を発出いたしました。
ダイバーシティを実現するためには、あらゆる観点からの組織の見直しが必要です。学会の国際化に向けた多言語化、多様なライフスタイルに応じたイベント運営や情報提供のあり方、そして多様な声を反映する制度整備など、多くの改革が求められます。今期は、とくにこのダイバーシティ宣言を着実に実行へと移すための施策を打ち出していきたいと考えております。
これから2年間、会員の皆さまとともに、よりよい学会を、そしてよりよい研究環境を育み、さらなる研究の高みを目指してまいります。そのために、私は、ここまで築き上げられてきた本学会の改革と発展の機運をしっかりと引き継ぎ、会長としての任務を遂行してまいりたいと存じます。

President's Greetings

Dear Members,
It is a great honor to assume the role of the 40th President of the Japan Association for Media, Journalism and Communication Studies. I feel a profound sense of responsibility and am fully committed to contributing to the continued growth and sound governance of the Association.
I am the first woman to serve as President since the Association’s founding in 1951. As someone who is deeply aware of the struggles and efforts of the women researchers who paved the way before me, I accept this role with both humility and a sense of solemn responsibility. At the same time, I am encouraged to see that our membership is becoming increasingly diverse in terms of backgrounds and experiences. I am particularly inspired and energized by the ideas and enthusiasm of our younger members.
Since the Association adopted its current name in the 38th term, it has pursued structural reforms with a sense of urgency, responding to the rapidly evolving media landscape. Our annual conferences have seen a steady rise in attendance. At the most recent spring conference held at Ritsumeikan University, more than 430 participants attended—surpassing the previous record and marking the highest turnout since the Association’s founding. Many participants were non-members, which I believe reflects not only our members’ passion for research but also the growing societal interest in our work.
Valuing diverse perspectives and approaches is essential to the advancement of academic research. To ensure that everyone can pursue their research freely and engage in meaningful scholarly exchange, the Board of Directors in the 39th term adopted the Statement on Diversity of the Japan Association for Media, Journalism and Communication Studies (link to be added) at its 15th meeting. I believe this statement marks a significant milestone in the Association’s history. Today, I am pleased to share this Statement on Diversity along with this message.
To truly realize diversity in this Association, we must reassess every aspect of our organizational structure and operations. This includes promoting multilingual communication to support internationalization, organizing events that accommodate diverse lifestyles, improving information accessibility, and reforming our institutional frameworks to better reflect the voices of our members. This term, we will focus on implementing concrete initiatives to put the principles of the Statement on Diversity into practice.
During my two-year term, together with all of you, I hope to build a stronger Association and foster a richer, more inclusive research environment—one that empowers each of us to uphold integrity and reach new heights in our academic pursuits. I will do my utmost to carry forward the momentum for reform and growth that has been cultivated thus far and to fulfill my duties as President with sincerity and dedication.
